This entry-level course is designed for new technicians and apprentices entering the automotive glass industry. Students learn the fundamentals of safety, tools, materials, and basic repair techniques. Emphasis is placed on building confidence, understanding auto glass construction, and performing services with accuracy and professionalism.

  1. Introduction to the Auto Glass Industry
    • History and evolution, The technician’s role and responsibilities, Customer expectations and professionalism.
  2. Safety & Compliance
    • PPE and safe shop practices, OSHA standards and safety checklists, Glass handling and lifting safety.
  3. Tools, Materials, and Equipment
    • Basic hand and power tools, Glass adhesives, primers, and cleaners, Tool maintenance and calibration.
  4. Vehicle Glass Basics
    • Types of auto glass (laminated, tempered, coated, OEM vs aftermarket), Identifying glass parts and terminology, VIN-based part matching basics.
  5. Fundamentals of Windshield Repair
    • Break types: bullseye, star, crack, combination, Repair resin types and curing methods, Repair vs. replace decision-making, Hands-On Repair Demonstration (Video-based).
  6. Introduction to Windshield Replacement
    • Removal techniques overview, Adhesive and installation basics
  • Proper use of safety equipment and PPE
  • Identification of glass types and parts using VIN-based matching
  • Basic tool handling and maintenance
  • Safe handling, lifting, and preparation of automotive glass
  • Decision-making: when to repair vs. replace
  • Professional communication with customers

Outcome: Students will be able to safely handle automotive glass, identify glass types and parts, and perform basic rock chip repairs with confidence while understanding when a replacement is required.
